While homeowners slept, criminals terrorized the City Beautiful early Tuesday morning. At least 7 vehicles and vessels were burglarized, 1 vehicle was stolen and another vessel theft was thwarted by a security guard. This all occurred in the residential area south of South Dixie Highway and along the historic Gables Waterway.
Homes in this typically quiet section of Coral Gables are valued as high as $5 million. The neighborhood has been buzzing about the burglaries and vehicle thefts on the Nextdoor app. One woman posted that a police officer told her that these types of crimes typically happen at the end of the school year and carries into the beginning of summer.
Feeling violated, Coral Gables residents are wondering what they can do and hoping to see a greater police presence in the area. One resident said Coral Gables Police advised them to be sure to lock doors and not leave key fobs inside the vehicle.
Investigators at the Coral Gables Police Department are not saying much publicly about the burglaries. CGPD only confirms officers are looking for the burglar(s) and presumably trying to determine whether the crimes are connected.
