Officers released videos on Friday showing the police response outside Morton’s The Steakhouse in Coral Gables after a U.S. congressman’s son was accused of slapping a Miami commissioner.
The videos show a man wearing a black jacket and khaki pants, who was later identified as a Miami police officer, pushing Attorney Carlos J. Gimenez on Wednesday at Ponce the Leon and Miracle Mile.
Officer Kelly Denham, a spokeswoman for the Coral Gables Police Department, released a link to a page showing five surveillance videos on YouTube, each about 18 minutes long.
Gimenez — the son of Rep. Carlos Gimenez, the former mayor of Miami-Dade County — was accused of slapping Miami Commissioner Alex Díaz de la Portilla while the two were in the restaurant.
Díaz de la Portilla’s Miami sergeant at arms detained him, but Coral Gables police officers arrested him. He was walked out of Miami-Dade County jail on Thursday facing a simple battery charge.
