Authorities are investigating after they said a man was killed and a woman was hurt following a hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles in Miami early Monday morning.
Police officers responded to the crash just after 3:30 a.m. at Southwest 43rd Avenue and Eighth Street, near Lejeune Road in the city’s Little Gables area, according to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Miami Fire Rescue confirmed a man in one of the vehicles involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman driving a second vehicle was transported to Coral Gables Hospital in stable condition.
Rodriguez also confirmed that the driver of the third vehicle fled the scene on foot.
He also said the MDPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded and determined that the initial point of the crash occurred within the city of Miami’s jurisdiction. Miami police have taken over the investigation.
A Local 10 News crew arrived at the scene of a crash where police had blocked off the area near the intersection with crime scene tape.
The vehicles involved sustained serious damage, with a pole smashed to pieces and a mangled street sign lying in the Walgreens parking lot. Shattered glass covered the area.
Police have not released any information on the victims or the person who fled the scene after the crash occurred.
They have also not confirmed if the crash led to any road closures.
