Movers & Shakers: Banesco USA taps chief risk officerSouth Florida – The Real Deal

In the latest roundup of South Florida real estate hiring news, a bank is minding its risk exposure, residential agent teams are on the move and Miami has a new director in its building department.

Miami-based bank Banesco USA hired Jose Morales as chief risk officer and executive vice president, according to a press release. In his new role, Morales will be responsible for ensuring the bank operates in a responsible manner, striking the balance between risk and business goals, the release shows. Prior to joining Banesco, Morales worked at Citigroup as director of transformation enterprise risk management and director of global payments and LATAM risk management, according to the release. 

In December, Banesco USA and the Spanish lender Abanca provided $33 million in financing to Constellation Group and Boschetti Group for a planned mixed-use development in Coral Gables. Despite high interest rates slowing lending nationally, construction lending in South Florida has soared in the past year. 

In Jupiter, the Bretzlaff Group jumped from Douglas Elliman to Compass, a press release shows. Led by Heather and Craig Bretzlaff, the team includes agents Scott Handler, Suzanne Hasner and Lauren Zitter, and has closed a combined $1 billion in sales over the course of their careers. The team leaves Elliman after a seven-year run, according to LinkedIn. They will be based in the Compass offices in Jupiter and Palm Beach, the release shows. 

The announcement follows news in August that Palm Beach agent Thor Brown left Elliman to join Compass.

In other residential brokerage news, Brigitte Nachtigall and her team joined One Sotheby’s International Realty in Key Biscayne, a press release shows. The Nachtigall Team includes agents Jorge Boj and Olga Cuesta and has closed more than $1.5 billion in combined career sales, according to the release. 

In Miami, City Manager Art Noriega V appointed Eduardo Santamaria as director of the building department, according to a press release. Santamaria was previously assistant city manager of Coral Gables until he left the role in 2021, LinkedIn shows.
