Ten police officers from the North Bay Village Police Department will be traveling to Washington, D.C., for the presidential inauguration.
North Bay Village Police Chief Carlos Noriega said the mission was an opportunity for training. They will be working shifts as long as 16 hours long.
“We are very proud,” Noriega said.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, there will be more than 25,000 law enforcement, military, and public safety partners contributing to the inauguration security efforts.
Other police departments in South Florida joining the law enforcement effort include Miami, Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, Sweetwater, West Miami, and Coral Gables.
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones said his department is sending 52 police officers including 13 who have specialized training on crowd control.
“We send the best of the best,” Jones said.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office will be deploying 45 deputies, and the Miami Police Department is sending about 40 police officers.
