One Sotheby’s International Realty is putting down new roots in Coconut Grove.
The brokerage, led by mother-son duo Mayi and Daniel de la Vega, signed a five-year lease for an office at 3560 Main Highway, COO Vanessa Stabile confirmed. Jill Penman, Jessica Adams, Jill Balli and Saddy Abaunza Delgado’s Abaunza Group will be based out of the Coconut Grove office, according to a press release. The brokerage now has 31 offices across Florida.
The space is a former BerkshireHathaway HomeServices EWM Realty office. Records show David and Christine Hill bought the 2,200-square-foot office for $170,000 in 1986. Stabile said One Sotheby’s put in new flooring, painted and replaced the roof to update the office in the two months before moving in. Its spot on Main Highway, across from Ransom Everglades High School, made it a very appealing choice for One Sotheby’s, she said.
“It’s a small space, but we made it more of a WeWork type of environment,” she said, noting that the office was designed around collaborative spaces rather than individual, assigned offices and desks. She said the flexible space can accommodate more agents and also better suit their come-and-go schedules.
Coconut Grove has seen a luxury boom in recent years. National Basketball Association star LeBron James’ former waterfront estate sold for $18.5 million last month. Coconut Grove is also home to One Sotheby’s headquarters, at 3250 Mary Street, although the brokerage plans to build a new primary office for itself in Coral Gables.
“We as a company felt it was important to be in Coconut Grove,” Stabile said, emphasizing the brokerage’s plans to engage with the neighborhood community.
The new office is the latest in a series of recent expansion moves for the brokerage. This month, One Sotheby’s hired Vogue and Compass alum Lena Johsnon as chief marketing officer, and promoted Taylor Travaglione to chief growth officer in June.
For their next move, Stabile said, “We’re putting a big emphasis on our Northeast Florida market.”
