Key Biscayne gymnastics teacher accused of sex crimes against teen studentsWPLG Local 10

A man who taught gymnastics in Key Biscayne is accused of committing sex crimes against two teenage girls he taught in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Key Biscayne police arrested Oscar Olea, 38, on Wednesday on two counts of engaging in a sex act with a child by a person who is in a position of familial or custodial authority.

Police said the two victims came forward amid an investigation that began in September. They said Olea taught at American Gymsters, which was located at 328 Crandon Blvd. at the time of the alleged crimes.

An arrest warrant states that the first victim came forward to police on Jan. 30, telling them she had been sexually battered in 2011 and 2012 when she was 14 years old.

Police said she was prompted to come forward after a Miami Herald reporter contacted her regarding an investigation on Olea.

She told authorities that Olea “always tried to bond with the female students” and he suggested she take private lessons with her, the warrant states.

The warrant describes a pattern of grooming allegations and police said the girl, who said she was being “mistreated” and “bullied,” felt that Olea was the only person who made her feel “loved and valued.”

Olea “would tell her how beautiful she was, compliment her body in a flirtatious manner, and seductively stare at her,” police wrote.

Police said Olea gained her parents’ trust and allowed her to have a “big brother” relationship with him.

The warrant describes what police said happened during private lessons.

“During the classes, (Olea) held the (girl’s) hand and told her that he would love her, they would be together, her age didn’t matter, and they would be married,” the warrant states. “The (v)ictim stated she was living with the illusion that they would end up together. The (v)ictim said the (he) would kiss her on the lips, hug, and hold her hand, leading to a sexual relationship during her private classes.”

Police said the victim “stated she had sexual intercourse with (Olea) approximately ten times between 2011 and 2012″ and had a pregnancy scare, leading Olea to take her to a Coral Gables doctor’s office for an ultrasound.

“The (v)ictim explained that in 2012, when her mother reported her suspicions to the police, she denied any sexual relationship with (Olea) because she feared her father’s threats of sending her away to (another country), boarding school, or going to a doctor to check her insides,” the warrant states. “The (v)ictim stated that once she left Key Biscayne, she put everything behind her and moved on.”

Police said the second victim came forward on Jan. 31. She said she started attending classes with Olea in 2003, when she was 10; the relationship began roughly four years later and continued until 2010, police said.

An arrest warrant describes similar grooming allegations, a “big brother” relationship and private lessons that turned sexual.

“During the sexual incidents at American Gymster, (Olea) placed mats, cones and other objects against the wall to conceal them from the view of the public, as they had sexual intercourse between the cubbies during the private lessons in the late evening,” the warrant states.

At one point, the girl told police that Olea sodomized her with a “glass object” during an encounter in his apartment, according to the warrant.

During her interview, the “distraught” victim, now an adult, showed detectives Facebook messages Olea sent her in 2011, police said.

According to the warrant, the girl told Olea she may be pregnant and he offered her a test kit — and to take her to an abortion clinic if necessary.

In another message, police said Olea told the girl, “Send me a naked a– pic showing me p—- and ill think about it.”

According to police, she said Olea “told her if her mother tells anyone or says anything to him he was going to have a problem with her.”

Key Biscayne police said the investigation into Olea remains “active” and “ongoing.”

Police said, “if there are any other victims or witnesses, we encourage you to come forward to the authorities.”

Olea was being held in Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $50,000 bond, according to jail records.
